Traders and business people at Ruaka town in Limuru Sub County have appealed to the Kiambu government to install street lights in the area to enable a 24-hour economy.

According to traders who spoke on Thursday, there are no street lights in the town despite the area being a busy business centre.

The traders say that they are forced to close their work business early and that installation of street lights will allow them to work through the night.

The business people and traders also noted that the street lights will curb cases of crime that are sometimes reported.

“Our appeal is to the Kiambu government and other government agencies to fast-track installation of street lights in Ruaka and neighbouring estates,” said Brenda Wanjohi a ‘mitumba’ vendor in the town.

Wanjohi said that a 24-hour economy will transform the economic standards of the area.

Stephen Muori, a bodaboda operator in the area said that business closes early adding that installation of street lights will be a boost.

“Most of the times we close business early because we cannot work in darkness,” he said.

Muori said that several masts of street lights had been erected in the area but nothing else has happened.

The business people now want their MP John Kiragu to follow up the matter with relevant authorities.
