Business people and residents of Ruaka town in Limuru Sub County have appealed to the Kenya Power to intervene over the frequent power outages being experienced in the area.

The businessmen complain that there are frequent power black outs which they say has slowed down their business and operations.

Speaking on Wednesday, the business people complained that they are losing much due to the power outages.

John Kirema, a Jua Kali artisan said that frequent outages have seen his business go down.

“I cannot operate without power and the frequent disconnections have hampered my work,” said Kirema.

The Jua Kali artisan accused Kenya Power of failing to explain the cause of the outages.

Mary Waitherero, a salon owner at Ruaka town said that she has been forced to close down her shop during morning hours due to lack of power.

“I often opt to open in the afternoons because in the morning there are power black outs and my work cannot go on without power,” she explained.

She said that since Monday this week there have been power blackouts especially mid-morning hours.

The businessmen and locals now want Kenya Power to intervene over the matter to ensure that their businesses are not interrupted by power black outs.

They also want Kenya Power to issue power disruption notices on time to avoid inconveniences. Attempts to reach Kenya Power Limuru branch officials for comment over the matter were futile as calls went unanswered.
