A section of Ruaka Town residents in Limuru sub county have appealed to the Kiambu government to improve on the drainage system which they say is in a sorry state.

According to the locals, the drainage system in most parts of the town is wanting especially with the heavy rains being experienced.

The locals say that the heavy rains experienced in the two days has led to bursting of drainage systems and sewer lines a situation they say pose a health risk.

“We are worried that we might contract diseases like cholera as a result of poor drainage system,” said Sharon Wairmu, a vegetable vendor at Ruaka shopping center.

She said that rain water is overflowing to their houses and business premises.

Wairimu called on the county government to urgently repair the drainage to avert damage as rains continue to pound.

The vegetable vendor said that they (locals) fear for the worst since the much anticipated El~Nino rains have started pounding.

The locals accuse the Kiambu government of failing to put in place measures to cushion on effects of El~Nino rains.

Joseph Kimani, a boda boda operator said that nothing has been done to curb the effects of El~Nino rains despite the meteorological department giving an early warning.

The bodaboda rider urged the Kiambu County Roads Department to intervene quickly and improve drainage to avert losses and inconveniences.
