Speaking in Mai Mahiu ward, Naivasha Sub County on Friday while presiding over a funds drive in aid of construction of a dormitory that was reduced to ashes after students went on rampage last week, he called on peaceful conflict resolution techniques.

"Two wrongs will never make a right especially when it comes to institutions that involve many people. The innocent ones are subjected to mental and physical torture while the guilty go unpunished," he said.

He emphasised on the county government's commitment in boosting education which he said was the surest way of nurturing an enlightened society. He donated 300 blankets and promised to bring the same number of bed sheets and mattresses before schools reopened in January.

More than three million shillings was raised with the county government and the Naivasha Constituency Development Fund (CDF) donating one million each.

At the same time, Naivasha MP Joseph Kihagi called on parents to prioritise education saying that the society was better off with educated, unemployed people than illiterate and unemployed.

"Let’s be realistic here. Why should we deny our children the chance to acquire formal education then start complaining of an increase in crime and drug abuse?" he posed.

Kihagi called for an all-inclusive approach that will see all stakeholders put in the required effort for the ultimate goal which is an enlightened society.

"Some parents are letting us down. Our county government is doing a marvellous job in promoting education but parents still want to keep their school going children at home," he noted.

He added that any parent using school age children at their businesses during school days would be arrested and punished by law.

The MP further lauded the county governments street lighting project saying that it had help fight crime and boosted business as traders could work up to late hours then safely walk home.
