Speaking on Sunday at his Kuresoi home after hosting leaders from both the national and county governments, church leaders and youth leaders, Ruto noted that the move was a personal decision meant to shape his political career.

He said that he was focused on completing his term as governor Kinuthia Mbugua's deputy at the moment "before making the big announcement."

"A lot of things have been said about my candidature here, I called you today to set the record straight, I will not contest for Kuresoi South MP seat next year. To my supporters, I will communicate my next political move in due course," he said.

The veteran politician cautioned political brokers against causing undesired speculation by dragging his name in different fronts, saying that he was in charge of his own political future and his supporters risked being confused in the process.

Ruto's speculated candidature had set the political mood in Kuresoi high with the residents having a hard time to choose between him and incumbent MP Zakayo Cheruiyot.
