Cord leader Raila Odinga has accused Deputy President William Ruto of misusing public funds through donations in harambees on a regular basis.
Speaking during a farmers and Cord officials meeting on Saturday at POA Place Resort, Raila said that Ruto should tell Kenyans where he gets overa Sh3 million per week to take to Harambees and yet his salary does not add up to that.
"The deputy president earns a salary of Sh1.4 million per month, where does he get over Sh50 million to take to harambees?" he asked.
He said Ruto was shielding some rich men from taxation who give him handouts to take to harambees.
"The money that Ruto is giving out is handouts from rich individuals with big businesses who give him money to take to Harambees in exchange for not paying taxes. Which makes the tax on common mwanachi to rise," he claimed.
He said DP William Ruto should use the funds to start programmes that will benefit all Kenyans instead of just a few.
