Following a misunderstanding which left one person injured on March 1, 2016 after he was attacked by angry residents at Katisaa, Kithyoko in Masinga sub-county, an order has been released by Masinga assistant deputy commissioner John Odengo to completely ban sand harvesting in the area.

Odengo was speaking in his office in Masinga town on March 2, 2016.

He said that it's a big shame that residents want to receive levies which is unacceptable by law.

He was accompanied by Kithyoko MCA Alexander Kithinzi.

"People keep fighting as they want levies from sand harvesters. I learned that there are two conflicting groups which geared the disagreement and unfortunate incident yesterday," said Odengo.

Odengo added that any one who will be spotted engaging in sand harvesting activity will be punished heavily.

Kithinzi noted that what women portrayed on that day was a big shame to the society especially those who took off some of their clothes.

"I am sending a warning to everyone involved in sand harvesting activity to stop immediately. Whatever I witnessed from some of our grandmothers at Katisaa is a disgrace to the society," said Kithinzi.
