Borabu constituency aspirant Dr. Nyandoro Kambi has yet again challenged institutions of higher learning to improve in delivery of quality education to learners.
Speaking on Tuesday when he visited Mt. Kenya University i-Kisii branch, the renowned scholar said many institutions had allegedly watered the quality of education and replaced as profit making institutions.
He said the management of institutions should consider adhering to the regulations as set by the commission of University Education to improve the quality which according to him is diminishing.
“As one of the academicians, I want to say that I am not impressed with the current set up in our institutions of higher learning. Many institutions have been turned into profit making organizations contrary to initial objectives of ensuring quality are achieved,” he said.
Nyandoro also challenged the Commission of University Education to take its job seriously by ensuring universities attained minimum requirements in opening satellite campuses as a way of improving the quality.
“The rate at which universities are setting campuses across the country is worrying. What disappoints further is that these campuses are poorly equipped leading to poor delivery to our learners. This means that the Commission of University Education hasn’t done much to combat the situation,” he added.
Mr. Kambi’s concerns followed by an action by the CUE to order closure of 10 campuses affiliated to Kisii University, giving the institution a period of 90 days to close the campuses and enroll the affected students to the institution’s main campus.
