The much anticipated Kisii University students union elections kicked off Friday morning with fresh accusations against the institution’s management for allegedly funding preferred candidates.
Leaflets with strong criticism were all over the institution with a special message to students participating in polls to shun certain candidates who were allegedly funded by the institution top leadership, a claim that has since been denied by the Dean of Students.
Mrs Gladys Osoro denied claims that the administration had a list of preferred candidates and said the will of students will be respected.
“I think those spreading the information want to divide students along tribal lines. We encourage democracy and that is what we want to see happening. It’s a secret ballot system of voting and so we expect credible results,” she said.
She said the administration was keen to give students freedom top voter their representatives without external interference.
“We want to be on record as an institution that supports open governance. The security people are pursuing those who dispatched the leaflets aiming at sparking controversy over the outcome of the polls,” she added.
Among the aspirants in the list of those allegedly funded by the administration include Seth Anunda (President), Duke Gwaro (Secretary General) and Isaack Moturi (Organising Secretary).
