A metal scrap dealer was on Thursday arrested in Kikuyu after he was found with stolen rails that went missing on Monday at the railway station in Kikuyu.

Confirming the incident Kikuyu OCPD Mr Mutune Maweu said that the rails were reported missing by the workers at the railway station in Kikuyu.

He said the metal scrap dealer was arrested after the metals weighing 230kgs were found in his store. The police boss said that the rails were stolen at night adding the suspect bought them from those who stole them the follwing morning.

He said that metal dealers and even second hand dealers should be very vigilant and careful with whatever they purchase because some of these items may land them into problems.

Maweu said that the suspect was in police custody adding investigations were still ongoing.

However, he said such dealers who do not mind and care where the goods they are buying come from really encourage criminals to steal.

He said any dealer found with stolen good is considered the thief. He warned dealers against buying goods without getting to know where they came from. "Most dealers have found themselves on the wrong for possessing stolen goods. This goes as a warning to all dealers in the region to be very careful and not buy goods from strangers as some of them steal them," said Maweu.
