Nominated Senator Janet Ong’era has dismissed speculations that she will be running for Kisii county women representative seat as ‘unacceptable fiction’.
Ms Ong’era has been increasing her political activities across the county, a reason why many political pundits link her to the seat that is currently held by Mrs Mary Otara.
On Sunday, Ong’era said her political activities in the region had nothing to do with the women representative seat and urged residents to give the office bearer humble time to do her job.
“There is no day I will express an interest in a seat that isn’t vacant. We have the office bearer who should be respected. The speculations that I will be running for the seat are unacceptable fiction that should be ignored by our people,” she said.
Ong’era said she will make decision in 2017 on her preferred seat after ‘in-depth consultation’ and maintained that she will continue supporting women empowerment projects and drumming support for the ODM party.
“I was nominated to serve the interest of ODM among the women and that is exactly what I am doing. My concentration now is to drum up support for the party and help sell its policies. The issue of 2017 is not as easy as it looks. There are so many factors we consider so I have to do indepth consultations,” she added.
However, political pundit Benford Mokua has maintained that Ms. Ong’era’s realistic chances are in women representative seat but maintained that her ambitions may bring confusion within the ODM party.
"She comes from Bobasi, the same region where the incumbent comes from. Senator Obure also comes Bobasi so that technically rules out her selection by Governor Ongwae as a running mate. Interestingly, all these people are allied to ODM so her only prospects remain battling it out in the women rep and this may bring cracks in ODM,” said the Mt Kenya University lecturer.
