Nominated Senator Janet Ong'era has challenged youth from the Gusii community to acquire National Identification Cards (IDs) to enable them participate in the forthcoming general elections.
Ong'era warned youth against being misused by politicians to achieve their selfish ambitions to the disadvantage of the young people who constitute the majority of the country's population.
Speaking in Kisii Town on Friday, Ong'era faulted some politicians from the Gusii community who allegedly ferried young people from the region to Deputy President William Ruto's Sugoi home, in the name of showing their political influence and might.
The senator said such politicians are only out to achieve their selfish interests at the expense of the youth.
She urged young people from the Gusii community to be careful as the 2017 general election draws near, arguing that their numbers and strength could be misused for secret political bargains by selfish politicians.
"I am challenging young people from this community to acquire National Identity cards and register as voters to ensure they make informed decisions and choices in the 2017 general elections. Youth should shun from being used as bargaining tools by some selfish politicians from this community who are eyeing free cash handouts,” said Ong'era.
