Clerics from Uasin Gishu have called on government to send spiritual leaders to counsel families of Kenya Defense Forces soldiers killed in Somalia.

The clerics said some family members were traumatised.

They spoke two days as preparation to hold an interdenominational prayer session at the Eldoret Barracks were underway to pray for the bereaved families.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to attend the prayers.

Speaking in Eldoret on Monday during a press briefing, the clerics head, Bishop Wilson Kurui said the affected families need emotional support.

"We urge the government to also provide financial support to the bereaved families," said Kurui.

Bishop Kurui further urged the government to send more troops in Somalia to fight the terrorists.

"KDF should come out of Somalia when there are no more terrorist," he said.

An Al Shabaab attack that was recently launched at a KDF camp in Somalia led to the death of a dozen soldiers.

There are no clear reports to date about the exact number of soldiers killed at the camp.

Militant group Al Shabaab claimed responsibility to the attack.

The Kenyan government deployed KDF in Somalia in 2011 following the abduction of tourists who were on holiday in Kenya.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has said the KDF will not withdraw from Somalia until the fight against Al Shabaab is won.
