The second week of the 30-day Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission massive voter registration exercise in Bahati constituency started on a high, with Monday recording almost triple the number of voters visiting the centre since the programme begun.

Bahati ward registration clerk John Gitonga said he believes the response was as a result of the Voter Registration Sensitisation Caravan traversing the area encouraging residents to visit nearby centres to get the voters cards.

Speaking after the close of business Monday where more than 300 people had been registered at the station, Gitonga lauded the gesture by area MP Kimani Ngunjiri and eluded confidence of registering many people before the exercise closes on March 15.

"Today (Monday) has been among the busiest days ever since we set base here and I think the response is because of the Voter Registration Sensitisation Caravan initiated by Mr Ngunjiri," he said, adding that they also expect many people during the last week because many people would want to beat the last minute rush.

The caravan was launched Sunday by the Bahati legislature, and is expected to woo more people to embrace the exercise for the whole week.
