The chairperson for Political Parties Caucus in Africa Stephen Nyarangi has challenged the government to settled Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Kisii County.
Addressing the press on Friday in Kisii town, Nyarangi wondered why the government was overlooking IDPs from Kisii yet some 2007/2008 post election violence victims had been settled long time ago.
Bogichora MCA Beuttah Omanga suggested that the IDPs be compensated before the next general election, saying that was important for reconciliation.
“The government has totally neglected the IDPs from Kisii region yet all others in the country had been settled. The IDPs are still in camps and have been in agony for a long time, actually since they fled their homes after the outbreak of violence in various parts of the country,” said Nyarangi.
He added: “This will make those affected from PEV to heal from the suffering. The government should also make reconciliation efforts universal. All communities must be given equal and fair treatment.”
Nyarangi took issue with the delegation that visited Deputy President William Ruto at his Sugoi home in Eldoret on Thursday, saying they were not involved yet they are major stakeholders in the county on political and development matters.
