Public service vehicle operators in Gatundu North sub -county have been warned against tampering with speed governors.
Speaking during an impromptu crackdown in Kamwangi town on Tuesday, area deputy traffic commandant Joel Mwireri vowed not to relent on ensuring traffic rules are followed to the letter, adding that offenders will be prosecuted.
He said many drivers flout the speed limit rule so as to go for many trips to increase their daily earnings.
“Many drivers are used to tampering with the speed devices but this is very dangerous and can cause deaths of innocent people on our roads. I am not relenting in the fight against traffic offenders,” he vowed.
Mwireri who led a crackdown that saw seven vehicles and three motorbikes impounded for lack of licences and speed gadgets, said his department was closely working with the National Transport and Safety Authority to ensure all vehicles operating on the roads were licensed and fitted with the devices.
He urged drivers to adhere to traffic rules to not only ensure their safety but also that of their passengers.
The vehicles were towed to Kamwangi police station while the drivers are expected to be arraigned at the Gatundu law courts on Wednesday, he added.
