More than seven families from Muigai-ini area of Juja sub-county were forced to seek for accommodation from neighbors after their houses caught fire and burned to ashes and thousands worth of property destroyed earlier on Sunday evening.
The houses, hosting families which consist of about 60 people, are said to have caught fire at around 5 pm.
The residents of the area struggled to put out the fire but were unable .
Efforts by the Fire Brigade from Thika town to put out the fire were also futile.
Area MP Francis Munyua arrived at the scene and donated Kshs. 25, 000 to the families affected.
The MP cautioned the residents against carelessness while dealing with fire citing that their houses are prone to fire. Munyua faulted the county government of Kiambu for failing to set aside, at least, a fire Sub-Station that would come in handy during such occurrences in Juja sub-county.
Juja ward administrator Mr George Mbuthia who was on the scene defended the county government saying that the area had no government offices and thus coordination would be hard for them.
