Residents of Koinange area in Shabab, Nakuru County, want the county government to ban water kiosks operating in the area.

The residents said the kiosks are responsible for the acute water shortage being witnessed.

They accused the Nakuru Water and Sewerage Company (NAWASCO ) of working in cahoots with business people to sell water.

“It is still a mystery why those kiosks never lack water yet the area has not had water for the last one week,” Kelvin Kiarie said.

They accused NAWASCO of diverting water to such kiosks.

“Even with all the surrounding estates lacking water, the vendors still have water to sell,” Patricia Wambui said.

They threatened that they will have the kiosks closed.

“We will seek to get residents raise a petition of 1000 signatures to have the kiosks closed," Mary Wambugu said.

The move comes amidst protest by London estate owners in early December following frequent water shortages in the area
