The recent Safaricom SOYA awards which were held on Friday night was attended by my Kenyans and sport personalities in the country.
Many sports personalities were awarded depending on their outstanding performances under the categories that they had been shortlisted in.
Under the school category, Shadrack Kimalel High School in Kibera beat other schools to win the school that produced a promising talent.
The school has a powerful tennis player identified by residents as Nkatha.
She represented Shadrack Kimalel up to East Africa where she won the finals becoming the Kenyan star in lawn tennis.
‘’This is not the first time Shadrack Kimalel has been awarded. During sports period, we are always sure of producing an East African star from the school,’ said Monica Arengo.
Arengo who is a neighbour of the school said she believes hard work is the only way the girl could have managed.’’
"She does not even know me but I am so proud as a mother,’ said Arengo.
Arengo now wants other schools in the region to emulate Shadrack Kimalel.
Last year, the Kibra MP Ken Okoth awarded the school after they were named the best school in sports during the Kibra Academic Day celebrations.
