Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabbir has said that only Coalition for Reforms and Democracy leader Raila Odinga is best suited to be the coalition’s flag bearer.

“It is not rocket science to know who will be Cord’s flag bearer. Only Raila is known not only nationally but worldwide and is best suited to fly the coalition’s flag in 2017,” said Shabbir.

Shabbir was reacting to sentiments of Cord co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka who said that he is best suited to be the presidential nominee for the coalition as he will stop rigging during the polls.

He however, warned the principals against making the pronouncements publicly as it will create anxiety among the coalition supporters.

“Kalonzo should not be saying the matter openly, same to other principals as it will start creating unnecessary tension in the coalition,” said Shabbir.

He asked Kalonzo to be a team player.

The Kisumu East legislator said Raila stands a chance unless he retires from politics.

He however stated that the three will sit down and decide who among them stands a chance to be the presidential nominee come 2017.

Cord co-Principals Kalonzo and Moses Wetangula have also shown interest in vying for the presidency.
