Residents of Zambezi, Kikuyu sub-county Tuesday woke up to a shocking scene after a popular shopkeeper in the area was found killed.
The badly mutilated body of the woman, 52, was spotted by passersby dumped along the road.
Her clothes were found a few metres in a nearby bush with stains of blood.
According to residents, the woman's husband was killed in a similar manner a few years ago by unknown people.
Scholastica Waithera, a sister to the deceased, alleged that the murder might have been informed by a land dispute already in court.
Kikuyu police boss Mutune Maweu said that the deceased might have been killed Early Tuesday morning as she was heading to her shop as 5 am.
Maweu said two bodaboda people who witnessed the murder are helping police with investigations.
"Investigations have been launched and we are certain that the witnesses we have will help us arrest the suspect," Maweu said.
The body of the woman was taken to Kikuyu Hospital Mortuary.
