Six senior officers in Nyamira County who were suspended after being accused of corruption were on Tuesday charged in a Nyamira court.
The six officers, who were suspended by Governor John Nyagarama on May 2015, include former director of communications and journalist Robert Nyasato.
Others are: Simon Onyari (former assembly acting clerk), Nehemiah Nyabuto (former principal finance officer), tender committee members Sylvanus Ndemo, Peninah Kerubo and Erick Onguti.
The officers are accused of defrauding the county over Sh30 million on a medical cover that according to Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, were not procured using the right procedure.
The health insurance scheme was mean for Nyamira members of county assembly.
The judge who was hearing the case set January 24, 2016 as the next date hearing date. They were each released on a Sh 10,000 bond.
