Access to water and sanitation has been a challenge to not only slum dwellers but also people living in the remote regions of the country including, Mandera, Wajir, Turkana and Machakos.

These affected sections of people may just benefit as their problem could be solved soon. This comes after the CS Ministry of Water and Sanitation, Eugene Wamalwa, confirmed that Nairobi would host the 18th African Water and Association (AFWA) Congress on February 22-25, 2016. This is so as to address and offer viable solutions to the unalleviated water problems.

The event is set to bring together over 1500 participants drawn from over 40 member countries whose water and sanitation utility companies are members of the AFWA caucus.

According to the Wamalwa, Kenya will use the occasion to share experiences with AFWA member countries in their own bid to find lasting solutions to perennial water accessibility and sanitation challenges.

''The congress shall be explicitly solution focused rather than diagnosing the challenges and problems in the sector,'' he said.

The theme for this year’s event will be 'Sustainable Access to Water and Sanitation in Africa'.
