Tea farmers from Sombogo village in Marani district in the county of Kisii now want the project that was set up to build the Sombogo Tea factory to begin while raising questions as to why the project had not started despite the construction being announced 2 years ago.

The tea farmers led by the Marani Member of County Assembly Mr. Dennis Ombachi said that the county government of Kisii had set aside Kshs. 30, 000, 000 for the project but that there was no sign showing that the project is set to start anytime soon.

Ombachi called on the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) and the county government of Kisii to ensure that the Marani residents receive what is rightfully theirs by building them the factory so as to get a market where they can sell their produce easily.

“The people of Marani have rights and one of them is to get the tea factory that the county government had promised 2 years ago. I want to ask KTDA and the county government to sit down and do something about this issue,” said Ombachi.
