A South Sudanese man was on Monday arraigned before a Nakuru court over alleged theft of gold jewelries.

Nul Lual was accused of stealing a gold ring valued at Sh33,500, gold necklace worth Sh100, 500, one gold coated ring worth Sh100 and a nokia mobile phone valued at Sh1,800, all property worth Sh135,900 belonging to Amour Mayen on January 10, 2016 at JB Estate in Nakuru County.

His lawyer Steve Kabita urged the court to be lenient in granting bond terms to the accused as he was only within the country for treatment and enjoying his refugee status within the country.

The prosecution told the court that Nul was a flight risk and could leave the country after he secures his freedom from custody

“The accused is a family member to the complainant who came recently for medication, he does not have the passport but he alien identification card,” said Kabita

Kabita also said that the family was trying an out of court settlement since the matter could have been hastened by emotions that arose after the loss of the valuables.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Doreen Mulekyo, he pleaded not guilty and was ordered to bring a Kenya citizen as his surety as well as depositing his passport.

The case will be mentioned on February 2 and heard on February 25, 2016.
