Kiganjo Landlords Association (KLA) Chairman James Karanga has said that the flooding problem in the area requires a more elaborate approach by all stakeholders.

"We are usually almost very sure that every time that there is news of a heavy rain coming, this place will experience some floods yet nothing substantial is done," said Karanga on Thursday in Kiganjo.

Karanga noted that the way the flooding problem is handled in the area is rather reactive than proactive.

"The way we see county government trucks and workmen rush here when floods hit doesn't help anyone. A long-term solution must be found," he added.

Karanga said that it is their tenants who bear the brunt of the floods yet they (landlords) comply with the construction rules laid down by the National Construction Authority (NCA) and the county government when putting up their buildings.

He observed that if the county government owned up to its responsibilities of proper waste disposal as well as putting up proper drainage systems, the problem of flooding would greatly reduce.

Karanga at the same time challenged landlords in the area to provide their tenants with dumping bins while appealing to residents to be responsible when disposing waste.
