The officer in charge of Nakuru GK Prison James Sawe has asked the Correctional Facilities Principle Secretary Micah Powon to open up a correctional facility in Molo.

Addressing journalists at the Nakuru GK Prison on Tuesday, Sawe said he had spoken to the PS about the issue, lamenting that they have received many remandees from Molo town, an act which has contributed to congestion at the facility.

He has stated that the prison has about 500 remandees from Molo town adding that as at now, the prison has a total of 1,562 prisoners instead of 700 that it should hold.

According to Sawe, the opening of another correctional facility in Molo will ease congestion at the Nakuru GK Prison.

In 2015, Powon also called upon the Judiciary to speed up cases of inmates to decongest prisons which have over 20,000 more inmates than what they can accommodate.
