A Nyamira politician Dr Evans Nyatigo has accused state officers of engaging in politics saying it is against the spirit of the Kenya constitution.
Dr Nyatigo who has declared an interest in the Nyamira Gubernatorial seat has also warned politicians in the country to stop early campaigns for the 2017 polls and focus on development.
The politician particularly singled out state officers in the parastatals whom he accused of using state resources to launch early campaigns for various seats in the areas.
Nyatigo who was addressing Sironga residents in Bogichora ward this morning said state officers should resign before engaging in politics.
In Nyamira and Nyanza region at large, he claimed that there were already signs of parastatal heads and other senior state officers actively engaging in open campaigns for political seats while still holding their jobs.
“Already several state officers are busy meeting party delegates and attending functions to drum up support for their elective positions. These moves are going against the constitution," he said.
He said the premature campaigns risk raising confusion ahead of party nominations and elections as most aspirants risk being barred.
“We have laws in place to check this and they should not cry foul when they will be locked out,” added Nyatigo.
According to Leadership and Integrity Act 2012 section 23, a state officer must not act as agent or manifest support for or against a political party or candidate in an election.
