The students whose main focus is breast and cervical cancer use Facebook to create the awareness about the two cancers that have claimed many lives.

According to The Green Initiative, Director Dorothy Ashago, their main target is the youth hence the use of social media.

"Almost everyone is on Facebook, that is why we decided to raise awareness through the platform, as it is easier to reach our target audience. We can stop deaths caused by cancer," said Ashago.

While speaking to this writer via phone on Thursday evening, Ms Ashiago said their sole purpose is to encourage early detection of breast and cervical cancer.

"You notice that earlier detection is really helpful in the fight against cancer, nowadays cancer does chose the age group which it attacks," said Ashago.

Ashago added that, many youth have little information when it comes to cancer, as they believe that the disease is meant for older people and therefore they don't bother getting the information.

"Since they don't look for the information, we decided that it is time to bring them the information, and social media is the best platform we thought of," added Ashago.

She said that through the Facebook page, subscribers are able to get all the information necessary, and in return ask questions in areas they have concerns.

The Facebook page by the name breast and cervical cancer awareness has so far managed to garner more than 1,000 likes in span of three month.

The groups plans to expand where they be carrying out door to door awareness in Kisumu County.
