Students are pleased after police patrols have been increased in Maseno following cases of increased criminality in the region.

Speaking to this writer, Mike Ocholla a student says he has seen a police patrol car for the first time in his area of residence, Nyawita.

A number of students suffered severe consequences last semester, the latest case being a female lady who was attacked by a group of three men who fled with her phone along Posta road leaving her with head injuries.

Peter Kasumbi, one of the police officers doing patrols in Maseno says cases of insecurity had risen in the area and rise of gangs terrorizing students and residents calling for the need of increased patrols.

“We have increased our patrols in the area to curb some of this rising gangs terrorizing students and locals. We are mounted in different places in Maseno and we hope this will serve to eradicate criminality in Maseno,” says Kasumbi.

Joel Amisi who resides in Mabungo, Maseno says he can now comfortably stay up late night as police patrols are in the area.

“I can now comfortably go to the library until late night. I noticed police patrols have increased since we opened,” says Amisi.

They, however, hope this will last for the rest of the semester.
