A Mombasa Court on Wednesday ordered a suspected drug peddler to be remanded in police custody for seven days.

The investigating officer made the application asking Mombasa Principal Magistrate Diana Mochache for more time to complete their investigations against the accused, Mr Hassan Omar Abdalla.

Mr Abdalla, who is suspected to be behind drug peddling in Kilifi County and the surrounding areas was arrested on February 2, 2016 at Mtwapa area within Kilifi.

State Counsel Erick Masila told the court that the police needed more time to conclude investigations after linking the accused with international drug traffickers.

Mr Masila added that they will prefer charges against the accused once investigations are completed.

“We may not charge the suspect now since crucial evidence and investigations are yet to be completed,” said Masila.

The accused who did not take any plea through his lawyer said the police did not find any drugs in his house during his time of arrest.

Magistrate Mochache allowed the police to detain the accused for seven days at Railways Police Station, while they conclude their investigations.

The case will be heard on February 10, 2016.
