A suspected thief was on Sunday morning given a dogs beating by angry residents after he was nabbed stealing from one house that he had broken into in Katisaa area in Lower Kiandani sub location in Mumbuni location.
Confirming the incident, Mumbuni chief Mathew Mulee said that the suspect waited for the homeowners to leave for church and took that chance to break in.
According to Mulee the man had successfully broken into the house and started taking out electronics before neighbours sensed danger and surrounded him.
Mulee said that the man was thoroughly beaten before the police could intervene and handcuff him.
He congratulated the residents for arresting the suspect but went ahead to condemn the act of taking the law into their own hands.
The chief asked residents to stop manhandling suspects and instead hand them over to the police.
"All suspects arrested by residents should be handed over to the police and not beaten, remember every suspect is innocent until the court proves him guilty, said Mulee.
The suspect is currently being locked up in Machakos police station as he waits to appear in court on Monday.
