A highway robber suspect in a case, involving sh70 million, along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway was on Thursday arraigned before a Nakuru court bringing the number of suspects to 15.

The suspect, Josiah Njahia, jointly with others in court is alleged to have used an offensive weapon to rob Titus Kiplagat of his motor vehicle, valued at sh9 million and goods worth sh60 million, belonging to Golden Gate Company on July 15, 2015, at Salgaa in Nakuru.

On a second account of the same charge, he is alleged to have been involved in robbing Abdi Fara of a mobile phone valued at sh6,000, money worth sh1,600, his national identity card and an Eldoret airport gate pass.

He also faced a third account of robbing Abdishukri Alinur of his mobile phone, a Samsung S3 valued at sh2,300, and taking away his national identity card, a National Bank ATM card, employment card and sh5, 000 in cash.

Njahia was arrested on December 22, 2015, by the flying squad officers on his way to Mombasa after allegedly returning from his three months hiding in Tanzania.

The case has seen fourteen suspects arraigned in court including 70-year-old Mary Wanjiru and her daughter-in-law, who were found with a carton containing mobile phones at their home in Gatundu alongside a Nakuru-based traffic police officer.

Other suspects facing similar charges include police officer, Peter Gachie Matiru, Wilson Muthaura, Francis Mungao and Anthony Macharia who were released on bond.

Njahia's brother, Eliud Waititu and his wife Elizabeth Wambui have also been charged.

Appearing before resident magistrate, Judicaster Nthuku, he denied the charges and the magistrate ordered that he be released on a surety bond of sh 5 Million or an alternative cash bail of sh2 million.

The case will be heard on February 9, 2016.
