Kithoni Self Help Group in Yatta sub county received the dairy goats on Saturday.

Members of the group received the goats courtesy of Swedish NGO 'We Effect.'

The dairy goats project is expected to lift the livelihoods of the members.

Speaking while handing over the goats to the group members on Saturday, Machakos Cooperative Union Martin Kithuka said the investment will enable the members generate cash for investment.

"These goats can produce lots of milk which can improve children's health and the surplus sold as a source of income, the goats also reproduce each year making the herd to multiply within no time," said Mr Kithuka.

Dr Martin Malila, the Chief Executive Officer of the Machakos Cooperative Union who was also attending the event said the goats were not a very demanding breed and are drought resistance, which need minimal care.
