The dumpsite situated near Tala dam behind the shops bordering some residential houses and only 200 metres from Tala market has been condemned as a health hazard.

In an interview on Saturday with some of the residents, they said the dumpsite has become a health hazard endangering the residents from contracting diseases such as Cholera, typhoid and Tuberculosis since the garbage has been piling up over a long period.

Ms Sylvia Kyendi a resident in the area said that the area suffers from air pollution as a cloud of smoke engulfs the atmosphere whenever the county workers burn the dry garbage.

Jennifer Kanini who lives near the dump site say dogs invade the area at night scavenging for food in the mounds of garbage endangering the lives of road users.

“I lock up my children in the house at around 7pm to protect them from being bitten by the roaming dogs as our house is close to the dump site,” said Kanini.

Although Matungulu sub-county administrator had late last year disclosed that the county government is set to establish a 7 acre dumpsite in Nguluni area, Tala residents wish the relocation could be done soon and save them from the menace.
