Kisii County residents have been asked to enable the old, disabled and those economically vulnerable residents to tap from the NHIF subsidy programme by the county administration.

Speaking from his Nyamache office, Kisii County administration assistant, Charles Bisinga, has said the Kisii County NHIF support Act 2015 establishes Ward Social Protection Committees that shall help identify appropriate 800 households they shall benefit from the Sh40 million programme across all wards in the county from January 2016.

"The program is aimed at supporting the economically vulnerable residents in taking medical insurance policy under NHIF," said Bisinga.

He added that children shall be covered by the policy taken by their parents or guardians and collective policy for youth, persons with disabilities and women groups shall be covered with groups paying for their monthly subsidised subscriptions.

The ward Social Protection Committees shall comprise of a youth, ward administrator, sub-county MOH, Culture and Social Service Officers, MCAs and three members of the public taking into account the 1/3 gender rule to identify 800 households to benefit from the programme as from January 2016.
