This comes after a taxi driver was arrested on Sunday afternoon after his vehicle was allegedly used in a robbery incident on Saturday night.

The man claimed that he was only a taxi driver and he had hired out the vehicle without knowing the intentions of his clients.

Speaking in his office, Kikuyu OCPD Mutune Maweu said that taxi drivers have developed a tendency of carelessly hiring out their vehicles.

"These incidences will not be taken lightly, as it is another way of encouraging crime. It is the duty of every taxi driver to ensure they have the details of all their clients in case it is later required," he said.

He said that this offence has landed many taxi drivers trouble, as they could not tell that people who hired the vehicles were criminals.

He recalled an incident where a taxi owner was arrested after his vehicle was used by criminals and police engaged in a shootout while he claimed he didn't know.

He said criminals had developed that trend of using hired vehicles for criminal and end up leaving owners in trouble.
