TThere was a late night scare at Kasarani in Elburgon ward, Molo consituency after a family started wailing when news hit the family that their son had been swept away by flood water.

Allegedly, the family received a disturbing phone call at 9pm on Monday informing them that their first born son, said to be an addict, was dead.

“When I was called that Sammy had died and the body was in a pool of water beside the road, I could not control my emotions. Remember I am a mother and the way the news was delivered to me was very shocking,” Peninah Mwaura, the man’s mother, said.

Neighbours quickly rushed to the scene only to come back carrying a totally drunk man soaked in sewage owing to the heavy downpour experienced in the area.

Mr Rasto Karanja, area Nyumba Kumi chairperson, called on police officers to help them fight the illicit brew menace in the area saying it has become a major concern.

“You can envision the scenario; somebody drinking to the extent of being assumed dead, this is the extent to where these illicit brews are pushing us into. It’s no laughing matter because next time, somebody will actually be dead,” he said.

The scare almost brought things in the slum, which is home to more than 1000 families, to a standstill as curious neighbours rushed to the man's home to catch a glimpse of the drama.

The family is now calling on the county government to help admit their addict son to any rehabilitation centre to help him overcome alcoholism which they say has enslaved him.

"It is painful as a mother, I ask the county government to help rehabilitate these alcoholics here to rescue them from the jaws of death," Peninah Mwaura said.
