Kisii County Government has put plans in place to roll out youth polytechnics in all the 45 wards which constitute the County.

This is a part of the efforts to empower talented young people who do not make it to secondary schools or tertiary institutions with technical skills for self-employment and reliance.

Conversely, Kisii county chief officer in charge of education and manpower development, David Kebiro has disclosed that the county government has already hired 103 instructors for the youth polytechnics to fast-track efficient delivery of vocational and technical training curriculum.

Speaking at Sameta High School during Education Stakeholders Meeting for Sameta sub-county, Kebiro underscored the importance of the youth embracing vocational and technical education as the field provided a wide range of job opportunities both in the private and public sector.

Kebiro encouraged young people from the county to take advantage of the technical institutions in the region to empower themselves with skills and knowledge for them to tap on the investment opportunities offered by the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)in the country.

Kebiro dismissed the negative notion among young people in the region that vocational and technical training institutions are a preserve for the academic failures ,reminding them that technical skills drove the western countries economies to the level they are today.

"In western countries, people with technical training skills are highly sought for since they hold keys to those countries' economies and industrial development," said Kebiro.
