A 19-year-old man was on Friday sentenced to life imprisonment by a Kikuyu court after being found guilty of raping his 78-year-old grandmother in Gitaru. Alex Njoroge raped his grandmother on April 3, 2015 in her house in Gitaru where they both lived. Njoroge is said to have escaped after committing the offence.
However, police arrested him in Kikuyu town on the April 15 where he had started living with a friend. He was taken to Kikuyu Police Station where charges were pressed against him.
A medical doctor from Kikuyu Hospital who treated the woman Ms Nancy Omondi appeared in court on the September 10 and confirmed that tests carried out proved that the woman was raped.
The magistrate Mr James Ogweno in his judgement said the case had been proved and sentenced the teenager to life imprisonment.
"The court has listened to the prosecution witnesses and also to your side and this court has found you guilty. You are, therefore, sentenced to life imprisonment," said Ogweno.
