Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker Isaac Terer has urged the National to suspend the use of the Integrated Finacial Management Information System (IFMIS) citing delays in disbursemt of funds.

Speaking after attending the farewell party of Kuinet-Kapsuswa MCA Rebecca Chepchirchir's daughter on Monday, Terer said that despite the county government receiving the money they cannot use effectively it in projects due to long procedures.

“IFMIS procedure takes a long time for you to access the money. At this moment that we are almost halfway through the financial year, how do they expect us to use Sh5 billion in six months?” he posed.

The Uasin Gishu County Speaker said the system is a major reason why a lot of money at the end of each financial year is returned to the National Treasury where he says they are blamed for not using the funds.

“I urge the National Government to suspend the IFMIS system and replace it with the previous project management system which was very efficient and our projects were running as stipulated,” he added.

Terer said that most projects have been paralysed not because of lack of funds, but because the IFMIS has led to the delayed issuing of funds due to what he calls long process.

"While we were using the project management system were constructing over 30 classrooms per month but in last six months we have done nothing, not even gravelling a single road section," he said.
