The Mombasa Law Court on Tuesday allowed an application by the police to remand a terror suspect to enable them complete investigations.
Mr Shee Mohammed Kale was arraigned in court to answer to charges of allegedly being a member of the al-Shabaab terror group.
The accused was arrested by Anti-Terror Police Unit on February 21, 2016 at Mazeras in Kaloleni area, Kilifi County.
State Counsel Eugene Wangila told the court that the accused is believed to be an al-Shabaab member suspected to be the key planner and coordinator of the attack in Milimani village, Lamu County.
Prosecutor Wangila further said that the attack which occurred on January 26, 2016 left six police officers dead while several others sustained serious injuries.
In the application to have the suspect detained, the prosecution said the accused has information that may assist police in their investigations.
He added that the electronic gadgets including a mobile phone that were recovered in the accused’s possession during his arrest, need to be taken to the Cyber-crime unit for analysis.
“Investigations have revealed that the accused was involved in the planning of the Milimani attack where six administration police officers were killed by an Improvised Explosive Devices (IED),” said Mr Wangila.
Senior Principal Magistrate Richard Odenyo in his ruling gave the investigating officers 14 days to complete their investigations and ordered for the accused to be detained at Central Police Station.
Magistrate Odenyo ordered for the case to be mentioned on March 8, 2016.
