A Mombasa Law Court on Monday allowed the police to detain four terror suspects for 30 days so they can complete their investigations.

The four suspects are Mohammed Abdalla Kassim, Faraj Fahim Swaleh alias Mustafa Kheri, Ali Omar Bwanadi and Kassim Ahmed Ali alias Abdirahman Ahmed Saidi.

Mombasa Principal Magistrate Diana Mochache issued the orders to have the accused persons detained at Makupa Police Station.

Swaleh will be detained at an undisclosed location after he told the court that he is a form three student at Makupa Boys Secondary School. The four accused persons were arrested by Anti-Terror Police Unit on March 1 at Bumala police roadblock within Busia County while allegedly attempting to sneak into Uganda.

Investigating Officer Samuel Ouma told the court that they believe the accused persons are members of the Al-Shabaab. He said that Swaleh and Ahmed were facing terror-related charges at a Lamu Court and they were out on bond.

Ouma told the court that the suspects, who are Kenyan citizens have information that may assist in the investigations.

He further said that the accused are part of or connected to a group of gang that attacked the Kenya Army Nyali barracks after a rifle was recovered from a house they used.

“An M4 cabin rifle was recovered from a house the accused used before the raid belongs to the Kenya Army,” said Ouma.

Acetone chemical used in the manufacture of explosives, two rifles and rounds of ammunition were among the things recovered during a raid at the accused house.

A gun belonging to an officer killed last year in October while manning Gulf Bank in Bondeni was recovered in the house, the court heard.

The case will be mentioned on April 7.
