Street boys and girls are always seen moving round the busy streets of Kisii town going on with their life without much to worry or fear about food, shelter and clothing.
There are various reasons as to why we see the children in the streets. Some of these children have their maternal homes where they come from but choose to stay on the streets because they have been raised there.
Others simply run away from their brutal stepmothers after the demise of their mothers. The rest of their life is spent in the streets.
Sometimes, these street families face various challenges while in the streets which make the streets not friendly to them. The cold spells of the night, the harsh police harassment during the night, the rainy times having in mind they do not have houses to stay in and many more challenges.
Traders in Kisii town seem to be playing a critical role for these children by, at least, giving them something to eat in exchange of the children helping them out at the market place.
The traders are now urging the county government to renew its policy of getting all the street children to school since they also need the education and also the sense of belonging to a community.
