The 'mbuyu' tree is a resourceful tree that gives out the delicious, edible mabuyu seeds, however, the tree means something else to Gekano students.

The tree lies in the compound of Gekano Boys High School in Nyamira county. It is easy to distinguish it from other trees since it is large, tall and has wide hanging branches.

The tree is believed to be a blessing to the students who have made it a habit of  sitting under it during admission. When cleared from the administration office, students are sent to sit under the tree as they wait on senior students and prefects to send them to their respective dormitories.

The students believe that when you sit under that tree, there is no you will generate fear, even if something awkward happens. Nevertheless, any meeting that is organised by students under the tree is never opposed by teachers in the school even if the discussions were against the school law.On closing day, all bags are availed under it so as to prevent students from any accidents on their way home.
