Police are investigating an incident in which a middle-aged man drowned in Makongeni area of Thika sub-county following the heavy rains that pounded the area after he drunk himself silly and slept on a drainage.
It was reported that the man had been drinking in a local pub in the area and that after the rain, he was spotted in drainage. And later questions were asked as he did not get home.
The man, a father of two, is a ‘jua kali’ worker in Thika, was said to have left his place of work at a construction site and went to his local pub at around 5pm and had his usual drink.
Thika police boss Erastus Muthamia said the deceased drank more than his body could handle and when he left the place, he was unable to walk and slept in a drainage.
After heavy rains, the floods swept the man away. His body was recovered down stream, having been blocked by a log.
He urged people to avoid drinking too much than their bodies could handle because with this heavy rains the probability of getting an accident were very high.
Muthamia also urged the youth to concentrate on engaging themselves in constructive social economic activities other than drinking.
