Community policing committee and police inspectors in Thika town have met on Thursday with the area sub county security committee in order to come up with ways of curbing the rising insecurity incidences in the area.
According to Thika OCPD Erastus Muthamia, they were able to set up strategies on how to curb the insecurity incidences in partnership with the community policing officers who are on the ground.
Muthamia raised the question of whether the county government is doing enough to support the 2 groups to meet their demands saying that they have been getting orders from the county officials that they should secure Thika people during the oncoming festive season.
“I wonder whether the same people who are pressuring us to work are supporting us as they should. Community policing has no funds and the officials can’t risk their lives for a voluntary activity. We need to work together instead of threatening us of shuffling,” he said.
Muthamia has however warned criminals causing havoc in the area at night saying they will be dealt with accordingly.
The OCPD said that they have received reports of criminal gangs operating in the area especially at night and that strategic measures have been put in place to curb criminal elements in the sub county and prosecute those involved.
Among those present at the meeting was the Thika DCC Jeremiah Gicheru, Kiambu county secretary Fredrick Kitema, Thika East OCPD Daniel Chacha, TDBA secretary Sam Chege, Madam Chania, Deputy OCPD Mary Kiarie and her Thika East counterpart Julius Kipbyegon, OCS Samuel Khisa and OCS Robert Okinya among other officers.
