Thika hawkers can now breath a sigh of relief after their grievances were forwarded to the Thika sub-county administrator Janet Mumbi on Wednesday morning.

Speaking after presenting the hawkers' grievances at Thika County Hall, Thika District Business Association (TDBA) Secretary General Alfred Wanyoike assured the hawkers that the issues they had raised last week will be addressed.

"We have no doubt that the sub-county administrator will treat the matter seriously and address to all the issues raised impartially," Wanyoike said.

On her part, the administrator promised to set a team to investigate the issues the hawkers have raised and respond to them immediately.

"We want everybody to go about by their businesses without harassment by anybody. I, however, request that we also observe the set county laws as we investigate the matters at hand," Mumbi said.

Street hawkers in Thika Town had last week threatened to stage a demonstration in the town due to what they termed as harassment by county askaris.

"We will wait and see the steps that the administrator will take to address the problem. We hope that the problems will be addressed promptly and properly," said Francis Kamau, a hawker we had talked to last week.
