Thika Sub County Traffic Base Commander William Uhuru has blamed careless driving among motorists as the main cause of accidents in Thika.

Speaking to journalists at Thika town on Thursday, the Traffic commander said that cases of accidents caused by careless driving have risen up in the area.

Uhuru said that most motorists’ including bodaboda riders are reluctant to adhere to traffic regulations.

“We have noted with concerns over rise in road accidents which are majorly caused by careless driving and riding,” he said.

The commander warned that stern action will be taken against rogue motorists.

“Road users must learn to respect and adhere to all the traffic laws in order to reduce accidents,” he said.

The traffic commander said that five accidents caused by human error have been reported since the start of this month in Thika.

Uhuru said that the traffic officials will not tolerate rogue motorists anymore. He called on motorists to adhere to the traffic laws especially this festive season.

“As we know the festive season is here with us and want to remind motorists to ensure they follow all the laws,” he said.

The traffic commander said traffic officers will be deployed across the Sub County’s major roads this festive season.

He added that they have partnered with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to ensure compliance of traffic regulations.

On Tuesday, three people died and scores of others injured in an accident involving a saloon car and a bus along Thika road. The driver of the bus was said to have been over-speeding when he rammed into the saloon car.
