Tuk Tuk operators in Thika Town have been warned against flouting traffic rules when within and without the town centre.
Speaking to journalists in his office on Thursday, Thika Deputy Traffic Base Commander John Lisoi said that many Tuk Tuk operators do not obey traffic rules especially when they leave the town centre to ferry passengers to the nearby estates.
"Traffic rules must be obeyed by every motorist irrespective of how small or big your vehicle is,” said Lisoi.
Lisoi said the operators are notorious for overlapping during rush hour, riding on pavements, operating unroadworthy vehicles among other offenses.
"The offenses must stop because we do not want the operators to get on the wrong side of the law. We know that most of these operators are young men eking a living but we will not tolerate them if they continue stepping on other people's toes,” said Lisoi.
He said that some Tuk Tuks were not being taken for regular service rendering them old and unroadworthy.
The commander noted that many of the unroadworthy Tuk Tuks lack basic things like side mirrors, while others had faulty exhaust systems that lead to air and noise pollution.
